As you may have noticed, MammothLocal.com, the online arm of Mammoth Monthly magazine, has stopped updating its pages until the economic climate improves. Owners Jean and George Shirk decided to keep the site alive, however, just for the heck of it. The Shirks still have a thing about Mammoth, and may return there soon to stir up more trouble. In the meantime, enjoy the high country (who doesn't?) and stay safe and well.
On one of the biggest weekends of the season Jan. 11-13, people crowded onto Cloud 9 Express, formed long lines at the McCoy Station gondola, filled the lunch tables and bars, skied, rode snowboards, skated at the new ice rink, watched football and generally had a great time on good snow. There's more coming.
Visitors will hardly recognize the new layout and exhibits at the Ski Museum. If you haven't been there this season, now would be a good time to check it out.

Everybody ready? Occupancy rates for Mammoth hotels, lodges and condos are expected to reach 63 percent of capacity this weekend, with more visitors on the way throughout the week that ramps up to the Christmas-New Year's holiday.
